Procedure on replacing lock set or instrument cluster

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Audi S4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: To ensure later identification of the anti-theft immobilizer, the following steps must always be performed when replacing the lock set or instrument cluster.

1. Lock set with 2 part sticker

NOTE: The sticker on key tag of new locking set serves to identify mechanical locking.

2. Immobilizer control module integrated in instrument cluster.

For safety reasons, secret number for immobilizer is encoded. The encoded secret number (PIN = Personal Identification Number) has 7 digits.

PIN can only be used with VAS 5051 tester Basis CD version 02.00.

The 7-digit secret number (PIN) must be obtained using the 14-digit identification number of immobilizer and of Engine Control Module (ECM) via the current distributor or importer.

The 14-digit identification number of immobilizer and of Engine Control Module (ECM) can be checked using On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

PIN is only valid on the day it was requested, after that a new PIN must be obtained. PIN is worthless for customers or other operations.

In all countries which have changed to on-line and fax request for 7-digit PIN, the request for 4-digit secret number is no longer possible.
