Spiral spring, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Removing 

CAUTION:
  • Ensure steering is in straight ahead and centered prior to removing spiral spring.
  • Position of spiral spring must not be changed once removed.
CAUTION: Special safety precautions apply to vehicles equipped with airbags. Heed all WARNINGS pertaining to airbag servicing → 69 - PASSENGER PROTECTION - AIRBAGS, SEAT BELTS

NOTE:
  • Due to manufacturing tolerances, it may not be possible to insert Special Screwdriver T8 T40056 all the way into access hole in switch module. In these cases, grind down shoulder of screwdriver in areas indicated - arrows  -.

NOTE:
  • Steering column switch module shown removed for illustration purposes.

Installing 

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Tightening torques 

Component - fastener Nm
Steering column switch module - bolt 3
Trim for steering column switch - screw 1
