Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or scan tool V.A.G 1551 , connecting

Test requirements:
NOTE:
- Battery voltage at least 11 V
- Ground (GND) connections at engine and transmission OK
- Engine off
- Automatic transmission in position "P" or "N"
Procedure

- Switch off ignition and connect VAS 5051 with accessory pack VAS 5050/1. Alternatively, connect the scan tool V.A.G 1551 with the diagnosis lead for the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
NOTE:
- The following description only covers the procedure for On Board Diagnostic (OBD when using the scan tool V.A.G 1551.
- When using vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 , follow the procedures described in the operating instructions for the tester.

NOTE:
- If display screen remains blank: Operating instructions for scan tool
- Switch ignition on.
- Switch on scan tool printer by pressing Print button. Indicator lamp in button must come on.
- Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer".
If the following is indicated on display:

NOTE:
- Address word 00 starts the automatic test sequence, i.e. the fault memories of all vehicle systems with self-diagnosis capability are interrogated by way of rapid data transfer.
- Enter "01" for the address word "Engine electronics" and confirm your entry by pressing the Q button.
The scan tool V.A.G 1551 will display the control unit identification details, for example:

NOTE:
- The control module identification can be printed out by pressing the PRINT button on the scan tool V.A.G 1551.
