- Engine support bridge 10-222 A
- Pry lever 80-200
- Transmission support 3282
- Adjustment plate 3282/30
- Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Fender insert pads T40045
Work procedure
- Place selector lever in position "P".
CAUTION:
Observe procedures for disconnecting battery →
- 27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL
- 27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL for ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, CABRIOLET
- Slide cover over battery to right - arrow 1 - and pull it off upwards - arrow 2 -.
- With ignition switched off, disconnect Battery Ground (GND) wire - arrow -.
- Remove engine cover - arrows -.
- Pull off sealing rubber at bolted flanges of fender.

- To prevent damage to bolted flanges of fender when using engine support bridge 10-222 A , insert fender insert pads T40045 on both sides between bolted flange of fender and web plate lying beneath.
- Position engine support bridge 10-222 A with adapters 10-222/3 on to bolted flanges of fender.
- Position engine support bridge 10-222 A with adapters 10-222 A/3 on to bolted flanges of fender.
- Engage spindles onto engine lifting eyes as shown.
- Pre-tension engine slightly using spindles on engine support bridge.
- Remove both front wheels.
- On vehicles equipped with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.
- Loosen quick-release screws - 1 to 3 - and remove front and rear noise insulation.
- Remove noise insulation bracket - arrows -.
- Remove vehicle floor plates at inside left - 2 - and inside right - 1 -.
- Remove bolts - 1 through 4 - and remove rear cross member for vehicle floor.
- Remove bolts - 1 to 6 - to remove front cross member for vehicle floor.
NOTE:
- Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Loosen bolts of front double clamp - arrows -.
- To disconnect exhaust system, slide clamping sleeve toward rear.
- Remove heat shield for exhaust system.

- Place plunger of Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A with a block of wood inserted in between - 1 - on transmission at bottom.
- Support tunnel cross member using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
CAUTION:
The lock carrier must be installed - danger of injury.
- First remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - , then bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.
- Slowly lower tunnel cross member using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Remove nuts - arrows - and remove tunnel cross member.
- Remove heat shield - 1 - for right drive axle.
- Remove drive axle from transmission flange on left and right sides → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
NOTE:
- Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Loosen bolts of front double clamp - arrows -.
- To disconnect exhaust system, slide clamping sleeve toward rear.
- Remove bolts - arrows - for front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter connection.
- Remove nut - 1 - on front exhaust pipe bar and remove front exhaust pipe.
NOTE:
- Observe the rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions → Rules for cleanliness when working on transmission .
- Place an oil receptacle underneath transmission.
- Remove union nuts - 1 - and - 2 - and disconnect ATF lines.
- Remove bracket for ATF-lines - arrows -.
- Remove ATF filter on transmission - arrows -.
- Remove union nuts - 1 - and - 2 - and disconnect ATF lines.
- Remove bracket for ATF-lines - arrows -.
- Remove bolt - arrow - and remove ATF lines from transmission.
- Disconnect ATF lines.
- Disengage electrical harness connector - 1 - and disconnect it from transmission.
- Move wiring harness - arrows - to clear engine.
NOTE:
- For the sake of illustration, shown with transmission removed.
- Remove bracket - 3 - for selector lever cable by first removing bolts - 2 -.
- Using pry lever 80-200 , press selector lever cable - A - from lever for selector shaft - arrow -.
- Remove bolts - 2 - and remove transmission support - 1 - from transmission.
- Remove bolts - 1 to 5 - and - 11 - on engine/transmission flange.
- Loosen bolt - 6 - only and then tighten by hand.
NOTE:
- Starter must not be removed.
- Mount transmission support 3282 on Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Set Template 3282/30 on to transmission support 3282 (template only fits in one position).
- Align arms of transmission support to correspond with holes in adjustment plate.
- Attach support elements on adjustment plate, as illustrated.

- Move engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with transmission mount 3282 under transmission and support transmission.
NOTE:
- The arrow symbol on the adjusting plate points in direction of travel.
- Align template parallel to transmission and secure to transmission using a bolt M10 x 20 - arrow -.
Audi Cabriolet:
NOTE:
- So that the 4 engine/transmission connecting bolts at bottom can be removed on the Audi Cabriolet, the following work steps must also be performed:
- Raise transmission slightly using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove torque support.
NOTE:
- Disregard - 1 -.
- Remove left and right nuts - 1 - and swing stabilizer bar - 2 - downward.
- Remove nuts - 3 - at engine mount on left and right far enough until lower edge of nut is flush with threaded pin - arrow -.
- Raise engine using engine support bridge 10-222 A far enough until both nuts - 3 - (on left and right sides) make contact on plate from below.
All:
- Remove bolts - 7 to 10 - at engine/transmission flange.
Audi Cabriolet:
- Lower engine again.
- Lower transmission again slowly.
All:
- Tie up drive axles.
- Remove last engine/transmission mounting bolt.
- Press off transmission from bushings and let it down carefully.
