Selector lever cable, checking and adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Socket and key T40031
Procedure
- Remove selector mechanism cover → Selector mechanism cover, removing and installing .
- Shift selector lever to position "S".

- Insert socket and key T40031 through access hole in selector mechanism to loosen clamping bolt at rear of selector lever cable approx. 1 turn.
NOTE:
- Only loosen clamping bolt 1 turn - do not remove.
- Clamping bolt can only be accessed with selector lever in position "S".
- The selector lever must remain in "S" position when clamping bolt is loosened; otherwise, adjustment will not be correct.
- Carefully move selector lever slightly forward and backward, without shifting lever into a different selector lever position.
- Pull selector lever once more to rear as far as possible into "S" position and release the selector lever.
NOTE:
- Do not touch selector lever again during adjustment process.
- Tighten clamping bolt in this position using socket and key T40031.
- Install selector mechanism cover → Selector mechanism cover, removing and installing .
- Check selector mechanism → Selector mechanism, checking .
NOTE:
- Use the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 A (Self-diagnosis, 02 - Automatic transmission, 08 - Read measured value block, Display group 4 in display field - 3 - to compare the position of the Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch F125 with the position on the selector lever.
If selector mechanism is not functioning correctly after adjusting selector lever cable, proceed as follows:
- Adjust selector lever cable to basic setting → Adjusting selector lever cable to basic setting .
