Gear oil in front final drive, checking

Plug insert 3247 (8mm)

Procedure

Warm up gear oil in front final drive to approx. 60 ° C by performing a short road test.
Drive vehicle onto a 4-column lift or over a work pit.

NOTE:

The vehicle must be on a level surface.

Place drip tray VAG1306 underneath.

Remove locking screw (arrow).

NOTE:

Loosen locking bolt using an angled socket-head wrench, but do not use hex ball socket 3247. For improved accessibility it may be necessary to remove the heat shield and drive axle and to set them aside.
If hex ball socket 3247 is used for loosening the bolt, it could be destroyed.

With engine switched off, allow gear oil to drip out for approx. 2 minutes.

Oil level is correct when the front final drive is filled up to lower edge of oil filler hole.

Let excessive gear oil drain or top up gear oil → Gear oil in front final drive, filling up after servicing .

NOTE:

Replace locking screw with seal.

When the oil level is correct, tighten locking bolt using hex ball socket 3247 (8mm socket) to 30 Nm.
