WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Audi A4, 2003 Audi A4, and 2002 Audi A4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Clean splines of input shaft and apply a little lubricating grease G000 100.
Clutch plate must slide easily back and forth on input shaft.
- Apply a thin coat of copper grease, e.g. Z 381 351 TE, to contact surface for plunger on clutch release lever.
- Check clutch release bearing for wear and replace if necessary.
- If plastic ring of release bearing is loose, stick back onto bearing ring with adhesive AMV 195 KD1 01.
Three rectangular lugs (arrows) on plastic ring engage in recesses in bearing ring.
If scores deeper than 0.5 mm are present, replace release bearing.
- Check whether dowel sleeves for centering engine/transmission in cylinder block have been installed and install if necessary.
- Make sure intermediate plate, if installed, is correctly positioned at engine.
- Using a thread tap, remove residual locking fluid from all threaded holes bearing self-locking bolts.
- Replace all self-locking nuts.
- Raise transmission until clutch slave cylinder can be installed together with holder for hose/pipe assembly (arrow).
- Install bolts for lower engine/transmission connection and for starter; to do so, insert starter.
Refer to 27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL
- Bolt tunnel crossmember onto transmission mount -4-.
- Lift transmission using engine/transmission lifter V.A.G 1383 A and firmly bolt tunnel crossmember to body.
