ATF Pipes And ATF Cooler, Cleaning

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782
Hose diameter: Approximately 18 mm
Compressed air gun, commercially available
Protective goggles

Procedure

NOTE:

CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

-- Remove the noise insulation -1 and 2-. Refer to "Underbody Trim" in EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT (CABRIOLET) .

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective goggles.

-- Place the V.A.G 1782 under the separating joints.

Vehicles with an ATF Pipe Filter

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and then pull the ATF pipe -1- off the transmission.

NOTE:

Do not remove the ATF pipe going to the ATF pipe filter -2- if the ATF pipe filter is not going to be removed.

-- Remove the bolt -1-.

-- Remove the circlip -arrow- and separate the ATF pipe from the ATF pipe filter.

NOTE:

Ignore -2- if the ATF pipe filter is not being removed.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and then pull the ATF pipes -1- off the transmission.

All Vehicles

-- Clean the ATF pipes and the ATF with compressed air (maximum 10 bar (145 psi)).

NOTE:

If extremely dirty, ATF flows out when cleaning using compressed air, flush the ATF cooler and lines using clean ATF.

-- Always replace the ATF pipe filter if the transmission is going to be replaced or if the ATF is very dirty. Refer to ATF PIPE FILTER .

-- Replace the ATF filter if the ATF is very dirty. Refer to ATF FILTER .

NOTE:

The ATF filter is supplied with the new transmission.

Replace the ATF filter each time the ATF is replaced.

-- Install the ATF pipes. Refer to ATF PIPES .
