Rear Flange Shaft Seal, Replacing

• Transmission installed.

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Thrust Plate VW 401
• Thrust Plate VW 402
• Thrust Disc VW 412
• Press Tube 30 - 100
• Thrust Piece for Final Drive at Gearbox T40165

Remove the center differential housing -B-. Refer to CENTER DIFFERENTIAL, TRANSMISSION INSTALLED

Remove the circlip -arrow-.

Removing the flange shaft.

-- Position the center differential housing so the flange shaft does not come into contact with the VW 401 and VW 402 when pressing it off.

Pry out the shaft seal -1-.

Installing Shaft Seal

Lightly coat the shaft seal on the outer circumference with oil and then install it. Do not bend the seal.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease G 052 128 A1.

Install the flange shaft.

• The flange shaft ball bearing in installed.
• When installing, the sleeve 30 - 100 presses on the inner race of the ball bearing.

-- Mount the flange shaft seal -arrow-.

-- Install the center differential and housing CENTER DIFFERENTIAL, TRANSMISSION INSTALLED .
