ATF, Draining

The illustration on the reservoir for the CVT Gearbox Filler System:VAS5162 in the upper left graphic refers to the use of special ATF for CVT transmissions.

In addition, the necessary work steps for filling are illustrated, which are described as follows:

CAUTION:

Danger Of Causing Damage To The Transmission.

Engine must not be started if only a small amount or no ATF is in the transmission after repair work or after significant ATF loss.
Do not let the engine run or tow the vehicle without ATF.
In this case, a preliminary filling with 5.5 to 6 liters (5.8 to 6.3 qts) ATF must be performed.

Depending on the version, ATF inspection plugs of different lengths -A- are installed. The ATF check plug must be replaced after the ATF level test. Always pay attention to the allocation according to the transmission codes in the Parts Information. To prevent damaging the transmission, compare the old and new ATF inspection plug.

The engine is off.
Move the vehicle onto a 4-column shop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.
The selector level is in "P".
The electro-mechanical parking brake is set.

-- Remove the rear noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING / OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit:SMN372500 under the transmission.

WARNING:

Danger Of Eye Injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove the ATF check plug -A-.

-- Drain the ATF.

NOTE:

Follow all disposal regulations!

NOTE:

Depending On The Version, Different ATF Inspection Plugs And Different Oil Level Tubes May Be Installed. Always Pay Attention To The Allocation According To The Transmission Codes In The Parts Information.
