Gear Oil, Draining And Filling: Procedure

CAUTION:

Danger Of Causing Damage To The Transmission.

  • Beginning approximately in September 2008, a new axle oil for the "Multitronic 0AW, FWD" transmission will be used in the factory. This transmission has an filler plug -arrow- with an internal TORX® . This transmission also has a new transmission code.
  • All transmissions before the change-over are filled with the former axle oil. These transmission have a filler plug -arrow- with an interior hex head.
  • Do not mix the axles oil, not even in small quantities. This will cause the sealing rings to leak. Note the allocation of the axle oils according to the transmission code letters. Only axle oil for "multitronic 0AW" which can be obtained as a replacement part must be used in front final drive.
  • Replace the filler plug after checking the level. Always pay attention to the allocation according to the transmission codes in the Parts Information. Compare the old and new filler plug to prevent leakage on the transmission.

After performing any repairs where the axle oil has been drained, for example after removing the front final driver cover, the front final drive must first be filled with axle oil.

Add the oil before installing the transmission so that there is enough time for the oil to even out.

Conditions:

-- With the transmission still removed, remove the inspection plug -arrow-.

-- Fill with 0.8 liter (0.84 quart) axle oil, pay attention to the allocation of the axle oil according to the transmission code.

NOTE:

For The Pre-Filling With The Transmission Installed, It Is Necessary To Wait Approximately 35 Minutes, So That The Internal Oil In The Front Final Drive Can Equal Out. This is the only way the axle oil level can be correctly adjusted.

-- Install the plug -arrow-.

-- After installing the transmission, check the axle oil level in the front final drive and adjust if necessary GEAR OIL, CHECKING LEVEL .
