Valve Timing, Checking

-- Remove the cylinder head covers. Refer to left side LEFT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  and right side RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Position the crankshaft at "TDC" in the direction of engine rotation -arrow- using the Crankshaft Socket:T40058  and offset open-end wrench.

NOTE:

If it is accidentally rotated beyond "TDC", rotate it back approximately 30° and set it to "TDC" again.

-- Remove the locking bolt -arrow- for the "TDC" marking crankshaft from the cylinder block.

-- Install the Crankshaft Locking Pin:T40069  in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- The camshaft for cylinder bank 1 must be secured in "TDC" using the Camshaft Clamp:T40133/1  .

-- The camshaft for cylinder bank 2 must be secured in "TDC" using the Camshaft Clamp:T40133/2  .

If the camshafts cannot be secured, the valve timing must be adjusted.
