Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

NOTE:

Replace the gasket and O-ring.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system and bearing.

  • Cover open parts of the engine.

-- Remove any old sealant from the grooves on the oil pan upper section as well as from the sealing surfaces.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block and the upper section of the oil pan, for example using a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 1.5 mm).

NOTE:

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be blocked with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

-- Apply a sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surface on the upper section of the oil pan as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:

Install the upper section of the oil pan within five minutes of applying the sealant.

-- Insert the seal -1- and the O-ring -2- in the guide frame.

-- Position the oil pan upper section while paying attention to the alignment bushings and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

Install in reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Install the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
