Compression Pressure, Checking: Procedure
- Engine oil temperature approximately 80 °C (176 °F).
- Battery voltage at least 12.5 V
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connectors on the glow plugs.
-- Disconnect the connector on the Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve -N276- -1- on the cylinder bank 1 (right) high pressure reservoir.
-- In order to reduce the fuel pressure in the high pressure reservoir, start the engine briefly.
-- Remove the glow plugs. Refer to GLOW PLUG SYSTEM .
-- Install the Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 8:VAG1763/8 instead of the glow plugs and connect the Compression Tester:VAG1763 .
For information on using the tester. Refer to the Operating Instructions.
-- Have A Second Technician Operate The Starter Until The Tester Does Not Show The Pressure Increasing Any Further.
| Compression Pressure | Pressure |
|---|---|
| New | 28 to 33 bar (406.1 to 478.62 psi) |
| Wear limit | 21 bar (304.57 psi) |
| Difference between cylinders | Maximum 5 |
Install in reverse order of removal. Note The Following:
-- Install the glow plugs. Refer to GLOW PLUG SYSTEM .
-- Check the engine control module DTC memory and erase it to clear any faults stored from disconnecting the connectors using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
