Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-, Removing And Installing: Installing

Install In Reverse Order Of Removal. Note The Following: 

-- Attach the grille -A- to the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- -B-.

NOTE:

The grille -A- prevents electrically conductive objects from short circuiting the heating elements -B- (which, for example, could happen via the instrument panel vents on the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-).

-- Place the rubber grommets -C- on the pin -D-.

-- Install the wiring harness -C- on the heater and A/C unit as illustrated from the bottom toward the top. Be careful not to pull on or damage the wire connections to other electrical components on the heater and A/C unit when installing the wiring harness -C-.

-- Insert the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- -B- pins with the rubber grommets -C- into the heater and A/C unit mounts -D-.

-- Install the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- -B- in the heater and A/C unit opposite the direction of -arrow-.

-- Tighten the bolt -A-.

-- Reinstall the wiring harness -C- as shown and secure it to the mounting points -B- on the heater and A/C unit.

-- Check the wiring harness routing -C-. The wiring harness should be fastened in such a way so that it cannot make any noises and that it cannot touch other components.

NOTE:

Secure the wiring harness with additional cable ties and foam strips to keep it from moving or making noise.

-- Secure the connector -B- to the heater and A/C unit and reconnect the connector -A-.

-- Tighten the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- Ground (GND) wire to the ground point -C- on the instrument panel crossmember (tightening specification: 9 Nm). Refer to Wiring Diagram.

-- Install the heater core for the front heater and A/C unit.

-- Install the glove compartment. Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENTS, COVERS AND TRIM

NOTE:

After all components outside of the glove compartment have been installed, check the activation and function of the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- through the "output diagnostic test mode" function on the A/C system and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Retrieve the front A/C display control head Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, and delete the displayed errors for the Climatronic Control Module - J255- (and the Rear A/C Display Control Head - E265-) if necessary, using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
