Refrigerant Circuit With Expansion Valve, Receiver/Dryer And Second Evaporator

NOTE:

This block diagram shows a refrigerant circuit with expansion valve, receiver/dryer and second evaporator (optional equipment on certain vehicles).

On vehicles with an expansion valve and receiver/dryer, the expansion valve is removed and replaced by an adapter. Depending on vehicle, receiver/dryer is flushed or dryer cartridge is removed. Depending on receiver/dryer version, it is to be removed and line connections to receiver/dryer are to be connected to each other with two adapters and a charging hose.

On a vehicle with only one evaporator, the components as of position "16" are not installed or are not required.

  1. A/C Service Station
    • With a electronics and a program for flushing for example Robinair A/C Service Unit: ROB134APF 
    • If an A/C Service Station without a flushing program is used, the procedure should be performed manually.

      -- Extract the refrigerant, if necessary.

      -- Install the Air Conditioning Flush Tool:17707  between the A/C service station and the return line from the refrigerant circuit.

      -- Evacuate the refrigerant circuit for 20 minutes and then charge with 4 kg of refrigerant R134a. Then extract again and repeat the procedure two more times. If the refrigerant in the viewing glass(es) is not clear after the third attempt, an additional attempt is necessary.

  2. Refrigerant Hose for A/C Service Station
    • From the high pressure side of the A/C Service Station (mostly red colored) to the low pressure side connection of the A/C compressor on refrigerant circuit (larger diameter).

  5. Adapter for the Removed Expansion Valve
  6. Evaporator
  7. Connection to Receiver/Dryer
    • Different versions depending on vehicle. Refer to ADAPTER FOR ASSEMBLING FLUSHING CIRCUIT .
    • Not present on vehicles with a dryer cartridge in receiver/dryer on condenser or a receiver/dryer installed in the condenser. Refer to Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning.
  8. Adapter for Bridging the Removed Receiver/Dryer
  9. Refrigerant Charge Hose
  10. Condenser
    • If a receiver/dryer with dryer cartridge is installed on the condenser, dryer cartridge must be removed (seal again the receiver/dryer on or in the condenser after removing). Refer to Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning.
    • If receiver/dryer is built directly on the condenser, receiver/dryer is to be removed and replaced only after flushing. Refer to Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning.
  11. High Pressure Side Connection on Refrigerant Circuit

  13. Charge Hose for Refrigerant Circuit Flushing Device
    • From connection to the high pressure side of the A/C compressor on the refrigerant circuit (smaller diameter) to input of refrigerant circuit flushing device.
  14. Refrigerant Circuit Flushing Device
    • Different versions and different design for example Air Conditioning Flush Tool:17707  .
    • With filter, viewing glass, safety valve, heater, refrigerant reservoir, etc. (depending on version).
      NOTE:

      Depending on the design of the A/C Service Station and the flushing device for the refrigerant circuits, a connection for a service coupling for the refrigerant circuits can be installed on the output and may also be installed on the input of the flushing device. If on the output of the flushing device a service connection with valve is installed this valve must be completely opened when the service coupling is connected. A valve that is not completely opened creates a constriction.

      -- If on the input of the flushing device a connection for a service coupling is present, modify the input so that the refrigerant hose which comes from the vehicle can be directly connected.

      NOTE:

      A service coupling and a valve in the flushing device input makes a constriction which impairs the refrigerant flow from the vehicle in the flushing device.

  15. Refrigerant Hose for A/C Service Station
    • From the low pressure side of the A/C Service Station (mostly blue colored) to the output of the refrigerant circuit flushing device.
  16. Adapter to Seal Output to Second Evaporator
    • Only required for certain vehicles with optional equipment "second evaporator".
    • From the Refrigerant Circuits Adapter Set 2:VAS6338/50  .
  17. Adapter to Seal Output to Second Evaporator
    • Only required for certain vehicles with optional equipment "second evaporator".
    • From the Refrigerant Circuits Adapter Set 2:VAS6338/50  .
  18. Low Pressure Side Connection on Refrigerant Circuit to Second Evaporator
  19. Connection of High Pressure Side on Refrigerant Circuit to Second Evaporator
  20. Adapter for the Removed Expansion Valve on Second Evaporator
    • Different versions depending on vehicle. Refer to ADAPTER FOR ASSEMBLING FLUSHING CIRCUIT .
    • Only required for certain vehicles with optional equipment "second evaporator".

    • Only present on certain vehicles with optional equipment "second evaporator".
