The Hybrid Battery Unit -AX1- is made up of the following: the Hybrid Battery -A38- with 240 nickel-metal hydride cells and the Connection and Junction Box 1 -SX1- (E-box) with the Battery Regulation Control Module -J840-. The total voltage for the Hybrid Battery Unit -AX1- is 288 volts. To protect the Hybrid Battery Unit -AX1-, especially during a rear end collision, it is surrounded by a frame made from welded and bolted aluminum parts (hybrid battery case), which deflects the energy from the impact into the body frame. The frame is also used when hybrid battery unit must be raised with a shop crane and a lifting belt to remove it from the vehicle.

The battery fans and the Battery Regulation Control Module -J840- can be removed and replaced however, it is not possible to open and disassemble the battery itself.

NOTE:

The Hybrid Battery Unit -AX1- can only be charged externally using the High Voltage Battery Charger:VAS6565  .
