SUBFRAME, Repairing, Bonded Rubber Mount In The Forward Direction Of Travel: Removing: Notes

Vehicles With An Air Spring Shock Absorber 

-- Activate the vehicle lift mode and place the vehicle on the lifting platform. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .

Continuation For All Vehicles 

-- Remove the noise insulation below the engine/transmission. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- Disconnect the driveshaft from the front final drive and tie up. Refer to DRIVESHAFT [For transmission(s) 0C8] .

-- If equipped, remove screws -arrows-.

-- Remove heat shield -1- on steering gear -2-.

-- Turn the steering gear to the right to the stop.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- of the universal joint -1-.

-- Remove the universal joint -1- from the power steering gear -2-.

-- Unscrew the threaded connection -1- for the coupling rod of the side on which the bonded rubber mount is to be replaced.

Vehicles With V6 TDI Engine 

NOTE:

In vehicles with a V6 TDI engine, a damper is installed on the right side.

-- Pry the cap -1- off of the damper -2- and unscrew the securing bolt.

-- Remove the damper -2- from the stabilizer bar clamp.

Continuation For All Vehicles 

-- Unscrew the bolts -arrows- for the stabilizer bar clamp -1- at the subframe on the side on which the bonded rubber mount is to be replaced.

-- Remove the stabilizer bar clamp -1-.

-- Remove the front bolts -1- for the subframe.

-- Place the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931  under the subframe.

-- Lower the subframe -1-.

a - maximum 40 mm 

-- Screw in two M14 x 1.5 x 90 bolts, for example Bolts:N 104 281 01  to secure the engine carrier to the body on the left and right -2-.

Pressing Out the Bonded Rubber Bushing

-- Set the Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Support Ring:T10301/8  -1- in place, so that the narrow side -arrow- faces toward the subframe.

The Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Support Ring:T10301/8  Must Be Lightly Set in Place and Must Not Be Tilted.

-- Mount the tools as illustrated.

  1. Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Thrust Piece:T10301/5 
  2. Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Support Ring:T10301/8 
  3. Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Tube:T10301/3 
  4. Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Spacer:T10301/9 
  5. Hydraulic Press:VAS6178  with Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit- Adapter 13:T10205/13 
  6. Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Nut:T10301/2 
  7. Hydraulic Press - Subframe Bushing Tool Kit - Spindle:T10301/1 
CAUTION:
  • Before pressing out, place the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS6931  with the universal mount under the cylinder since the cylinder may fall down at the end of the pressing out procedure.
  • Hold the Hydraulic Press:VAS6178  firmly while pressing out.

-- Press out the bonded rubber bushing.

Installed Location 

One of the arrows -1- must point in direction of travel
