Removing The Inner CV Joint: Notes

-- Remove the clamps.

-- First remove the outer CV joint. Refer to REMOVING THE OUTER CV JOINT .

-- Pull the CV joint boot off of the inner CV joint.

-- Drive off the cover for inner CV joint.

Remove the circlip with the Circlip Pliers:VW161A  .

-- Press the inner joint off from the drive axle as shown in the illustration. Hold drive axle securely while doing so.

The inner CV joint cannot be disassembled for inspection.

Pressing on the Inner CV Joint

-- Press the inner CV joint onto the drive shaft as shown in the illustration.

-- Install new circlip on drive axle using Circlip Pliers:VW161A  .

-- Slide new CV boot onto drive axle if necessary.

-- Press half of the total amount of grease from the repair kit into the joint body.

-- Distribute the remaining grease from the repair kit into the joint boot.

-- Install a new cover on the inner joint.
