Removing
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Tilt the toothed belt guard forward in direction of -arrows- and disengage the pins on the underside of the guard.
The toothed belt guard is shown with the intake manifold upper section removed.
A used toothed belt could be destroyed if the running direction is reversed.
Before removing the ribbed belt, mark the running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for installation later.
-- Remove noise insulation. Refer to Noise Insulation .
-- Set the engine to >>ignition TDC<< :
Place a cloth under the oil pan upper section to prevent engine oil from draining.
-- Remove the sealing plug -arrow- from the upper section of the oil pan.
Risk of injury when touching "TDC" hole with finger.
- Do not rotate crankshaft -1- .
-- Install the Crankshaft Key:3242 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. Rotate the crankshaft back and forth slightly to center the pin completely, if necessary.
-- Use the Drift:T40135 to secure the high pressure pump toothed belt sprocket.
-- Loosen the bolt -1- for the toothed belt tensioning roller one turn. Ignore item -2- .
-- Loosen the toothed belt drive gear bolt -1- two turns using the Wrench - Pin Type: 3036 or Counterhold - Multiple Use:T10172A Wrench - Pin Type: 3036 or Counterhold - Multiple Use:T10172A .
-- Remove the toothed belt drive sprocket using the Puller - Toothed Belt Pulley:T10320 .
The toothed belt drive sprocket remains on the camshaft.
-- First remove the toothed belt from the high pressure pump sprocket and then from the drive sprocket.
