Overview - Piston And Connecting Rod: Notes

NOTE:
Oil all bearing and contact surfaces before assembly work.
Oil injector jet for piston cooling. Refer to Figure.
- Connecting Rod Bolt
- 30 Nm + 90° (1 /4 turn) additional turn
- Replace
- Tighten to 30 Nm to measure radial play. Do not turn farther.
- Radial play, measuring. Refer to CONNECTING RODS, CHECKING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
- Lubricate the thread and contact surface.
- Connecting Rod Bearing Cap
- Do not interchange
- Mark which cylinder to which it belongs -B-. Refer to Figure.
- Installation position: casting markings -A-
- Bearing Shells
- Note location
- Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark)
- Bearing shells that are worn down to the nickel layer must be replaced.
- Radial play, measuring. Refer to CONNECTING RODS, CHECKING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
- When measuring radial clearance, tighten bolts -item ) OVERVIEW - PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD - CONNECTING ROD BOLT to 30 Nm but do not turn further
- Connecting Rod
- Always replace as a set.
- Mark which cylinder to which it belongs -B-. Refer to Figure.
- Installation position: casting markings -A-
- Axial play for each new connecting rod pair: 0.20 to 0.44 mm
- Circlip
- Piston Pin
- If difficult to move, warm the piston up to approximately 60 °C (140 °F)
- Remove and install using the Pilot Drift:VW222A
- Piston
- With the combustion chamber
- Mark the installation position and cylinder allocation. Refer to Figure
- Checking. Refer to Figure.
- Install with piston ring compressor
- Replace if there are cracks on the piston shaft
- Piston and Cylinder Dimensions. Refer to PISTON AND CYLINDER DIMENSIONS .
- Piston Projection in TDC, Checking. Refer to PISTON PROJECTION IN TDC, CHECKING .
- Checking the cylinder bore. Refer to Figure.
