Lower Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Removing

NOTE:

The procedure is based on the removal and installation of the timing chain cover. The cover for

-- Drain the engine oil.

-- Remove the engine. Refer to ENGINE, REMOVING .

-- Separate engine/transmission unit. Refer to REMOVING ENGINE FROM Scissor Lift Table .

-- Secure engine to assembly stand. Refer to ENGINE, SECURING ON ASSEMBLY STAND .

-- Remove the drive plate. Refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the shim behind it.

-- Remove the charge air pipe with the crankcase ventilation connecting hose.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the oil supply line banjo bolt -3-.

-- Disconnect the connector -4-.

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 3- and the bracket.

-- Remove the bolt -1-.

-- Disconnect the rear coolant pipe from the coolant hose -arrow-.

-- Remove the turbocharger oil return line -item 26) OVERVIEW - TURBOCHARGER .

-- Remove the nuts and bolts -arrows- and the left connecting pipe.

-- Remove the bolts and nuts -1 through 4- and the right connecting pipe.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the turbocharger.

-- Remove the bolt -arrows- and the vacuum pump.

NOTE:

The vacuum pump installed on cylinder bank 2 (left) on a vehicle with engine code CASA and CASD is shown in the illustration.

If the vehicle has engine code CATA, then the vacuum pump is installed on cylinder bank 1 (right).

Vehicles with Engine Code CATA

-- Remove the exhaust gas recirculation auxiliary cooler. Refer to EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM AUXILIARY COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -1 to 4- and the right timing chain guard.

-- Remove the bolts -1 to 4- and the left timing chain guard.

-- Remove the bolts -1 to 9- and the timing chain guard lower section.

-- Press sealing ring for crankshaft at rear out of cover.
