Lower Timing Chain Cover, Tightening Specifications And Sequence

-- Tighten the bolts in three steps and in the sequence shown:

Step Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1 to 9- 5 Nm from the inside toward the outside and diagonally
2. -1 to 7- 9 Nm from the inside diagonally toward the outside
3. -8- and -9- 23 Nm

-- Apply the sealant bead to the clean sealing surfaces on the left timing chain cover as illustrated.

-- Install the seal -2-.

-- Apply a sealant bead with a 3 mm diameter to the transitions between the cylinder head and lower timing chain cover -arrows- as illustrated.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than specified.

-- Install the left timing chain guard and tighten the bolts as follows:
