Radial Play, Measuring: Procedure

NOTE:

Do not interchange used bearings

Bearing shells that are worn down to the nickel layer must be replaced.

-- Remove guide frame and clean journals.

-- Place the Plastigauge^® over the entire width of the bearing journal or in the bearing shells.

The Plastigauge^® must rest in the center of the bearing shell.

-- Install guide frame and tighten to 30 Nm. Do not turn crankshaft.

-- Remove guide frame again.

-- Compare the width of the Plastigauge^® with the measuring scale:

Radial play new: 0.018 to 0.045 mm.
Radial clearance wear limit: 0.10 mm.
