Reducing Agent Tank, Draining
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Adblue/Urea Recovery Unit: VAS6557
The "NOx reducing agent AUS 32" (AdBlue® ) is simply called reducing agent in the following information.
- The reducing agent can irritate skin, eyes and the respiratory system.
- If the fluid comes into contact with skin, rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of water.
- Consult a physician if necessary.
The reducing agent tank is emptied through the filler neck.
Make sure the reducing agent does not come into contact with clothing or the vehicle body.
If this occurs, wash immediately with clean water and then dry with a lint-free cotton cloth.
If the reducing agent has already crystallized, use warm water and a sponge.
Reducing agent that is not removed will crystallize and can damage the affected surface.
The reducing agent tank filler opening is located in the luggage compartment under the carpet.
-- Raise the carpet -1- and slide it back.
-- Remove the wing nuts -3- on the spare wheel, if applicable and remove the spare wheel -2-.
-- Remove the foam piece, if applicable.
Protect the hands when prying the plug out of the tank filler neck.
Sharp-edged body components could cause injury.
-- Remove the plug from the tank filler neck -1-.
-- Open the tank cap -1- in the luggage compartment.
Prepare the Adblue/Urea Recovery Unit: VAS6557 as follows:
-- Connect the shut-off valves -A, through C-.
-- Connect the coupling -D- to the connection on the shut-off valve -A- and fill the compressed air hose with compressed air.
-- Open the shut-off valve -A-.
This creates a vacuum in the Adblue/Urea Recovery Unit: VAS6557 .
-- Close the shut-off valve -A- as soon as the pressure gauge indicates a vacuum 0.8 bar (11.6 psi).
-- Disconnect the coupling -D- from the connection the shut-off valve -A- and stop the flow of compressed air to the compressed air hose.
-- Guide the hose -E- into the filler neck and all the way to the bottom of the reducing agent tank. Open the shut-off valve -B-.
The vacuum in the Adblue/Urea Recovery Unit: VAS6557 extracts the reducing agent from the tank. The Adblue/Urea Recovery Unit: VAS6557 can extract 11 liters (11.62 quarts). That is enough to remove the reducing agent tank. Repeat the procedure if the reducing agent tank contains more reducing agent than that and it must be emptied completely.
-- To empty the AdBlue/Urea/Recovery Unit: VAS6557 , hold the connection on the shut-off valve -C- over a suitable container and open the shut-off valve -A and C-.
Do not reuse extracted reducing agent.
-- Flush the AdBlue/Urea/Recovery Unit: VAS6557 thoroughly with water after completing the procedure.
