Catalytic Converters, Removing And Installing: Removing:
Proceed As Follows:
-- On a vehicle with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to Self-Leveling Suspension .
-- Remove air guide pipe -arrows-.
-- Remove the air filter upper part.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- at the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the Throttle Valve Control Module - J338-.
-- Remove vacuum lines on intake manifold as follows:
1 - For Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister, press release buttons
3 - For the brake booster
Ignore -2- and -arrow -.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- from the intake manifold.
-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- and remove heat shield.
-- Remove the heated oxygen sensors. Refer to OXYGEN SENSORS .
-- Remove the nuts on the connection between the catalytic converters and the exhaust manifold -arrows-.
-- Unscrew the retaining bolts for catalytic converter exhaust bank 1 -arrows-.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .
-- Remove the noise insulation bracket -arrows-.
-- Remove the bracket -A-.
-- Loosen the clamps -arrows-. Unscrew mount -1 and 2-.
-- Support the transmission with the :VAG1383A with :T10337 installed as shown.
-- Remove transmission carrier bolts -1 and 2-.
-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove transmission carrier.
Ignore items -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the front prop shaft. Refer to appropriate service information. .
-- Unscrew the retaining bolt for catalytic converter exhaust bank 2 -arrow-.
Danger of causing damage to the decoupling element.
- Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°.
- Do not stretch the decoupling element.
- Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.
-- First remove the >>upper<< catalytic converter for exhaust bank 2 in a downward direction. Then remove the catalytic converter for exhaust bank 1.
