Overview - Rear Brakes, 17" Brake Caliper

After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

Use the Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit :VAS5234  to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.

Install the Brake Pedal Actuator:VAG1869/2  to relieve pressure before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose.

  1. Brake Rotor/Brake Drum
    • Internally vented brake rotor: 330 mm diameter
    • Brake rotor thickness: 28 mm
    • Wear limit: 26 mm
    • Brake drum: 210 mm diameter
    • Wear limit: 211 mm
    • Always replace on both axles (Rotors replaced in pairs per axle)
    • Remove the brake caliper before removing, do not remove the brake line.
    • Move the parking brake motors into the installation position beforehand
    • After replacing, perform the basic setting for the electro-mechanical parking brake.
  2. Fitting Bolt
    • 15 Nm 
    • Brake rotor to wheel hub
  3. Sealing Plug
    • 15 Nm 
    • For the adjusting nut for the electro-mechanical parking brake
  4. Wheel Hub with Wheel Bearing
  5. Brake Pads
    • Thickness: 10 mm without backing plate
    • Wear limit: 2 mm without backing plate
    • With wear indicator
    • When wear limit is reached (limit: approximately 4 mm) the warning lamp in instrument cluster will come on.
    • Check the thickness. Refer to appropriate service information.
    • Always replace on both axles.
    • Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

    • For brake pads

  9. Internal Multi-Point Bolt
  10. Brake Hose
    • Do not disconnect the brake hose when replacing brake rotor
    • Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.
  11. Bolt,
    • 8 Nm 
  12. Bracket
    • Brake pad wear display wire
  13. Brake Line
    • 14 Nm 
    • To replace the brake pad or brake rotor, do not remove the brake line
  14. Bolt
    • 10 Nm 
  15. Bracket
  16. Wheel Bearing Housing
  17. Brake Carrier Plate
  18. Bolt
    • 8 Nm 
  19. Brake Shoes
    • Without wear indicator
    • Minimum brake pad thickness: 1 mm
    • Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE SHOES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Coat the brake shoe ridge on the sliding and side surfaces near the parking brake motor mount with hot bolt paste G 052 112 A3 Figure
    • After replacing, perform the basic setting for the electro-mechanical parking brake.
  20. Parking Brake Motor
    • Removing and installing. Refer to PARKING BRAKE MOTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Coat the mount for the brake shoes on the sliding and side surfaces with hot bolt paste G 052 112 A3 Figure
    • After replacing, perform the basic setting for the electro-mechanical parking brake.
  21. Clip
    • Bracket for the parking brake motor wire
  22. Fitting Bolt,
    • 65 Nm 
    • Parking brake motor to wheel bearing housing
  23. Return Spring
    • Parking Brake Motor
  24. Spring Pin
  25. Pressure Spring
  26. Tension Spring
    • Adjusting Nut
