Brake Pads, Removing And Installing: Removing

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

• Piston Resetting Tool:T10145 

When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven.

-- Remove the wheels.

-- Separate the connector -1- for brake pad wear indicator.

-- Remove dust cap -2- and remove brake pad wear indicator wire.

-- Drive out the brake pad pins -arrows-.

-- Pull the brake pad wear display wire -arrows- out of the brake caliper and out of the retaining spring -1-.

-- Remove retaining spring.

Before pressing the brake pads back, extract the brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir. Otherwise, especially if reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.

-- Press the brake pads off the brake rotor and then remove them from the brake caliper.

-- If brake pads are to be replaced, carefully remove contact sensor with brake pad wear indicator wire from brake pads and check for damage.

Reuse undamaged contact sensors and wires.

Cleaning 

-- Clean the brake caliper.

Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning brake caliper.

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

• Torque Wrench 80-400 Nm :VAG1576 
• Brake Caliper Assembly Pins:T10439 
• Piston Resetting Tool:T10145

-- Remove the wheels.

-- Remove the upper bracket for the brake hose -1- from the wheel bearing housing -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the connector for the brake pad wear indicator -1- and remove it from the bracket -3-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the lower bracket for the brake hose -3- from the wheel bearing housing.

-- Remove the dust cap from the brake caliper bleed valve and remove the brake pad wear display wire.

-- Pull the brake pad wear display wire out of the brake caliper.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the speed sensor.

-- Press the brake pads off of the brake rotor.

-- Remove the internal multi-point bolts -A- from the brake caliper.

-- Install the Brake Caliper Assembly Pins:T10439  for this.

-- Then push the brake caliper forward in direction of -motion arrow- until the brake caliper engages in the openings -arrows- of the Brake Caliper Assembly Pins:T10439  .

-- Pry the brake pads out of the brake caliper with a screwdriver -arrows- ; be sure not to damage the dust caps.

-- Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper.

-- Carefully remove the contact sensor with the brake pad wear display wire from the brake pad and check for damage.

Reuse undamaged contact sensors and wires.

Cleaning: 

-- Clean the brake caliper.

Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning brake caliper.
