General Description

Side assist lane change assistance supports the driver with the help of radar sensors in the rear bumper cover that monitor the blind angle and traffic behind the vehicle. Displays are installed on the inner side of the exterior rearview mirror housing. They inform the driver in 2 levels if side assist has detected a vehicle on that side and if the vehicle is critical for a lane change. In the "Information level", the displays in the exterior mirrors illuminate and inform the driver that side assist has detected a vehicle on that side and that it is critical to a lane change. If the turn signal is activated during the information stage, lane change assistance switches to the "warning stage" and respective display in the exterior mirror blinks rapidly and brightly.

Side assist is operated using the assistance systems button in the turn signal lever and the instrument cluster display. While driving, important information is shown in the instrument cluster display.

The lane change assistance cannot work when the vehicle has a trailer hitch installed by the factory and it is electrically connected to the trailer. The vehicle has a trailer hitch not installed by the factory, then it is necessary to manually turn off the lane change assistance when towing a trailer.

Malfunction Recognition and Malfunction Indicator

Side Assist lane change assistance is equipped with On Board Diagnostics (OBD) that facilitates fault finding.

The "Guided Fault Finding" function is to be used for troubleshooting of one of the systems described as in service information "Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System". Refer to VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC TESTER .

To check the complete side assist lane change assistance system, perform output diagnostic test mode LANE CHANGE ASSISTANCE CONTROL MODULE -- OUTPUT DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE .
