Instrument Panel, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Remove the trim from the shift mechanism. Refer to GEARSHIFT MECHANISM TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the storage compartment/ashtray. Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENT/ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- and Climatronic Control Module -J255-. Refer to DISPLAY AND CONTROL HEAD [For engine(s) CGFA, CATA, CGRA] .

-- Remove the vent in the center console appropriate service information. .

-- Remove the rear trim from the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE REAR TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel side covers. Refer to SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the A-pillar center trim. Refer to A-PILLAR CENTER TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the footwell covers. Refer to FOOTWELL COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel left trim on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL LEFT TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel right trim on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL RIGHT TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the storage compartment in the center of the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER STORAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front information display control head control module. Refer to RADIO/NAVIGATION SYSTEM "RNS 850" .

-- If equipped, remove Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- inside the glove compartment. Refer to RADIO/NAVIGATION SYSTEM "RNS 850" .

-- Remove the Glove Compartment Lamp -W6- and Glove Compartment Lamp Switch -E26-. Refer to LAMPS AND SWITCHES IN ROOF TRIM PANEL .

-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the airbag unit on the driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to appropriate service information. .

-- Remove the steering column trim. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove steering column switches. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH .

-- Remove the instrument panel trim. Refer to INSTRUMENT TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument housing trim. Refer to INSTRUMENT HOUSING COVER .

-- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .

-- Remove the Light Switch -E1-. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL LAMPS AND SWITCHES .

-- Disconnect the connector from the Access/Start Authorization Switch -E415-

WARNING:

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before separating the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

-- Disconnect the connector from the front passenger airbag -arrow- and remove the screws -1- and -2- (8 Nm).

-- Remove the two bolts -1- (1.5 ± 0.2 Nm).

-- Remove the two bolts -3- (8 ± 1.2 Nm).

-- Detach the bracket -2- in the upper area from the guide and remove.

-- Remove the bolts -1- through -10-.

-- Pull the instrument panel slightly into the passenger compartment and remove the Sunlight Photo Sensor -G107- or Sunlight Photo Sensor 2 -G134-. Refer to ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS FOR CONTROL AND REGULATION .

-- Disconnect the electrical harness connectors according to the vehicle equipment.

NOTE:

Two technicians are needed to remove the instrument panel.

-- Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle interior and lay it on a soft surface.
