Instrument Panel CROSSMEMBER, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the insulation -1- on the front passenger side.
-- Remove the insulation -2- on the driver side.
-- Remove both bolts -arrows- on the driver side and detach the retaining bracket -1-.
-- Also detach the retaining bracket on the front passenger side as described.
-- Remove the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-. Refer to COMFORT SYSTEM CENTRAL CONTROL MODULE -J393- .
-- Remove the Comfort System Central Control Module - J393- bracket. Refer to COMFORT SYSTEM CENTRAL CONTROL MODULE -J393- .
-- Remove the relay carrier in the left front footwell. Refer to RELAY CARRIER .
-- Remove the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module -J519-. Refer to CONTROL MODULES .
-- Remove the wiper arms. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM
-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER BULKHEAD .
-- Remove the wiper frame with the linkage and the Windshield Wiper Motor -V-. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM .
-- Remove the bolt -1- in the plenum chamber on the driver side (20 Nm +90°).
The bolt -1- must be replaced when installing the instrument panel crossmember!
-- Disconnect the steering column from the crossmember .
-- Remove the two bolts -1- and -2- (20 Nm) on the left and right sides of the two tunnel supports.
Use a scriber to mark the height and side position of the crossmember in the vehicle around the nuts -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the nut -1- (20 Nm) on the front passenger side.
-- Remove the 2 nuts -2- (20 Nm) on the driver side.
-- Remove the bolt -1- on the front passenger side (10 Nm).
-- Remove the bolts -2- and -3- (10 Nm).
-- With a second technician, carefully remove the crossmember -4- from the vehicle.
