Transmission, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With V6 TFSI Engine: Removing
-- If the vehicle has air suspension, activate the vehicle lift mode. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .
-- Remove the left and right catalytic converters. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CGRA] , EMISSIONS CONTROL [CGFA] and EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS [CATA] .
-- Remove the front and rear driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT .
-- Remove The Ribbed Belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CATA] , RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CGFA] and RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CGRA] .
-- Support the engine and the transmission.
- Before mounting, prepare the :10 - 222 A as follows:
- Push the :T40091/3 and two :10 - 222 A /3 in the same direction onto the square pipe of the :10 - 222 A .
- Attach the :10 - 222 A /29 to the :10 - 222 A .
Do not place the engine support bridge on the steel panel seams -arrow- !
-- Install the engine support bridge as illustrated.
-- Slide the :T40093/4 and :10 - 222 A /28 on the :T40091/1 .
-- Place the :10 - 222 A /28 on the longitudinal member and insert the :T40091/1 into the :T40091/3
-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side of the vehicle.
-- Slide the :T40091/2 on its side through the :T40093/4 .
-- Push the two :T40093/5 onto the :T40091/2 and then push the rail with holes into the moveable joint on the other side.
-- Install the locking pin and secure it with cotter pins.
-- Hand-tighten all the threaded connections on the engine support bridge.
-- Tighten the two threaded spindles on the left lifting tackle as illustrated.
-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side of the vehicle.
-- Support the engine in its installation position.
-- Remove the starter. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the generator bracket.
-- Place the :SMN372500 under the transmission.
Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions when working on an automatic transmission. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and then remove the ATF lines from the transmission.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the :VAS6122 .
-- Remove the bolt -1-.
Ignore -item 2-.
-- Remove the right catalytic converter bracket -1- from the transmission -arrows-.
-- Remove the left catalytic converter bracket from the transmission -arrows-.
-- Disconnect the connectors -1, 2 and 3-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -F125- -2-.
-- Remove the bleed hose -4- from the clip on the coolant pipe.
-- Remove the coolant pipes from the transmission -arrows-.
Ignore -items 1, 2 and 3-.
-- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the ball head -1- using the :80-200 and remove the lock washer -3-.
A removed lock washer must not be used again. Always replace the lock washer.
Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
Ignore -item 2-.
-- Insert the guide pin for the :T40058 as follows:
- The large diameter -arrow 1- faces the engine.
- The small diameter -arrow 2- faces the adapter.
-- Counterhold the crankshaft with the :T40058 and an offset open-end wrench to loosen the drive plate bolts.
Turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.
-- Remove the cover -2- towards the front.
-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -1- in the opening of the removed starter by rotating the crankshaft 120° in the direction of engine rotation.
Replace the bolts after removing them.
-- Place the :VAS6931 with the :T40173 under the transmission and secure with the strap as shown.
Risk of damaging the ATF pan.
- Adjust the transmission support so that the transmission and the main bearing is not resting on the surface of the oil pan.
-- Remove the transmission support bolts -1 and 2-. Refer to TRANSFER CASE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove all remaining engine/transmission bolts.
-- Separate the transmission from the engine. Remove the torque converter from the drive plate through the opening of the removed starter.
-- Carefully lower the transmission using the :VAS6931 .
-- Use the :30 - 211A to secure the torque converter from falling out inside the transmission.
-- Secure the :3033 to the transmission and to the transfer case as shown.
-- If it is necessary to separate the transmission from the transfer case, use the : VAS6100 to lift the transmission with the transfer case off the :VAS6931 and set it down so it is not resting on the oil pan.
-- Separate the transfer case from the transmission. Refer to TRANSFER CASE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
