Rear Driveshaft Boot, Replacing: Disassembling
-- Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to REAR DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Mount the driveshaft on the installed Driveshaft Alignment Fixture:3139 in a vise.
-- Open the large clamp on the driveshaft tube boot.
-- Disconnect the driveshaft tube boot and push back. Pry out the circlip -1- in the driveshaft tube with a tool, or example a screwdriver.
Before disassembling the driveshaft mark the position of the components to each other. Install in the same position otherwise the imbalance will be excessive and the bearings could get damaged causing rumbling noises.
-- Push back the driveshaft boot until the ball cage is viable. Mark the installed position of all components to each other -1-.
-- Remove the driveshaft tube.
-- Drive out the cap -2- with an appropriate tool such as a drift -1-.
Always replace the cap after removing.
-- Remove the ball cage from the hub.
-- Loosen the small clamp and remove the boot from the hub.
