Exhaust Flap, Checking Functionality: Procedure

- Vacuum lines and hose connections free of leaks.
- Vacuum lines not plugged.
-- Remove the vacuum hose -2- to the vacuum adjusting element for the exhaust flap on the rear muffler.
-- Connect the Hand Vacuum Pump:VAS6213 to the vacuum adjusting element using an assist hose as illustrated.
NOTE:
The left exhaust flap is shown here.
-- Run the hand vacuum pump to generate a vacuum.
- The exhaust flap must close.
-- Vent hand vacuum pump.
- The exhaust flap must open.
-- If the exhaust flap does not move, then make sure the linkage moves easily and check the vacuum adjusting element for leaks.
