Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing From Camshafts: Installing
- The vibration damper is at the "TDC" point.
- The notch -1- on the vibration damper must align with the arrow marking -2- on the lower timing chain cover.
- Camshaft chain sprockets fixed with :T40271/1
and :T40271/2
.
- The markings -arrow- previously made on the camshaft chain sprockets are flush to the camshaft locks.
-- Position the markings on the chain links -arrows- at the chain sprockets -1- to mount the camshaft timing chain.
-- Install the upper guide rail -2-.
With Wrench Clearance:
The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft in direction of -arrow 1-, slide the :T40271/1 out of the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow 2-.
-- Carefully release the camshaft, until the camshaft timing chain is laying on the upper guide rail. Hold the camshaft in this position.
-- Bring the camshaft timing chain tensioning rail into the installation position, and tighten the bolt -A-.
-- Remove the :T40271/1 .
Without Wrench Clearance:
The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft with the :T10172A slightly in the direction of -arrow A- and push the :T40271/1 from the chain sprocket splines direction of -arrow B-.
-- Release the camshaft carefully in direction -C-, until the camshaft timing chain touches the guide rail -1-. Hold the camshaft in this position.
-- Bring the camshaft timing chain tensioning rail -2- into the installation position, and tighten the bolt -3-.
All Versions:
-- Turn the intake camshaft in direction of -arrow 1-, slide the :T40271/2 out of the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow 2- and release the camshaft.
-- Remove the :T40271/2 .
-- Check the valve timing. The camshaft timing chain and cylinder head -arrows- must align with the markings on the chain sprockets -1-.
-- The markings for the camshaft timing chain and the camshaft timing chain guide rail -2- must align.
-- The notch on the vibration damper must align with the marking on the lower timing chain cover -3-.
-- Lubricate the hole -arrow- with engine oil.
-- Mount the bearing bracket and the bolts -arrows- hand-tight.
-- Depending on the version, remove either the :T40011 or the :T40267 .
-- Tighten the bearing bracket bolts -arrows-. Refer To OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS .
-- Install the bolt -arrow-.
