Ignition System Safety Precautions
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2012 Audi S5, 2011 Audi S5, 2010 Audi S5, 2009 Audi S5, and 2008 Audi S5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
To Reduce The Risk Of Personal Injury And/Or Damage To The Fuel Injection And Ignition System, Always Observe The Following:
WARNING:
- Fuel system is under high pressure! The pressure must be reduced to residual pressure before opening the high pressure components of the fuel injection system. Refer to BEFORE OPENING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM .
- Then wrap a clean cloth around the connection and relieve residual pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
CAUTION:
- The Battery must only be disconnected and connected with the ignition switched off, since the Engine Control Module (ECM) can otherwise be damaged.
- Always follow the instructions when disconnecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY .
- If the battery is >>Not << disconnected, then for safety reasons, the fuse located in fuse holder -SC 3 in the fuse panel ST2 (brown) in the instrument panel the driver side- must be removed from the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- before opening the fuel system. Otherwise the driver door contact switch will activate the fuel pump.
- Individuals with a pacemaker must not stay in the danger area of high voltage systems, for example ignition system, xenon light.
- Fuel lines must not be opened when engine is running.
- Only disconnect and reconnect wires for injection and ignition system, including test leads, when ignition is switched off.
- If engine must be cranked at starting RPM without starting, remove the connector form the ignition coils fuse from the electric fuel pump.
- It is possible that the control module will recognize a malfunction and store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) during some tests. After completing all checks and repairs, check the DTC memory and erase the memory, if necessary.
- Cleaning the engine should only be performed with ignition switched off.
- The Battery must only be disconnected and connected with the ignition switched off, since the ECM can otherwise be damaged.
