Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Overview: Overview
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
PATS uses the following main components:
- BCM
- Keyless entry rear antenna/PATS antenna
- Passive key
- PATS front antenna
- PCM
- RTM
- Start/Stop Switch
When the START/STOP button is pressed, the key data is read by a PATS antenna. If a valid programmed passive key is detected inside the vehicle, the key data is transferred from the PATS antenna to the BCM, and if it matches the data stored in the BCM, the BCM communicates this to the PCM and the vehicle is allowed to start.
PATS does not disable a vehicle that is already running.
