Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

    Halfshafts
    IWEs
    Driveshaft and U-joints
    Vacuum leaks
    Fluid leaks
    Matching tire sizes
    Transfer case
    BJB fuse 13 (10A)fuse 29 (10A) (IWE) solenoidfuse 54 (40A) (ELSD and DCMR)fuse 63 (15A)fuse 71 (15A)
    BCM fuse 32 (10A) (ATCM-FFSM)
    Wiring, terminals or connectors
    4X4 switch module (ATCM)
    Drive mode select switch
    Transfer case clutch field coil
    IWE solenoid
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the DLC.
  5. If the TCCM or ATCM does not pass the network test, REFER to: Communications Network . .
  6. Download the Self Test and Datalogger tools.
  7. Retrieve and record CMDTCs for all modules.
  8. Clear the CMDTCs from the ATCM and TCCM.
  9. Perform the KOEO self test on the ATCM and TCCM.
  10. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart: Four-Wheel Drive Systems - 1 Speed Torque on Demand  or GO to Symptom Chart NVH  Symptom Chart - NVH.
