Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Plastigage^®

NOTE:

Use old bolts to measure radial play.

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.

-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.

-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.

-- Place Plastigage^® over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.

Plastigage^® must rest in center of bearing.

-- Install the camshafts, mount the guide frame and tighten the old bolts. When doing this, be careful not to rotate the camshafts.

-- Remove the bearing bracket and camshafts.

-- Compare width of Plastigage^® with calibrated scale.
