Cylinder Head, Removing And Installing: Removing
During installation, cable ties must be installed at the same location.
Always seal off any open channels in the intake and exhaust tract with suitable plugs. For example, from the Engine Bung Set VAS6122.
-- Remove the camshafts, refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.
- Do not turn the crankshaft if the camshaft has been removed.
-- Remove the front noise insulation, refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.
- The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm.
- Reduce pressure by covering coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and carefully opening.
-- Drain the coolant, refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Remove the front muffler, refer to FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, NON-HYBRID VEHICLES .
Risk of injury from fuel.
- To reduce fuel pressure, lay cloths around connecting point before opening fuel system and carefully loosen.
Risk of contamination to the fuel system.
- Note the rules of cleanliness for working on the fuel injection system, refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
-- Press the release ring and disconnect the fuel supply hose -1-.
-- Remove the hose -2- from the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister.

-- Disconnect the following connectors.
- From the Intake Air Temperature Sensor -G42-.
- Disconnect from the Knock Sensor 1 -G61- and free up.
- If installed: from the EVAP Canister System Pressure Sensor -G804-.
- From the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80-
- From the Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve - N316-, Fuel Pressure Sensor -G247- and Camshaft Position Sensor - G40-.
- From the fuel injectors
- From the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-.
Non-Hybrid Vehicles
-- Disconnect the connector -2- and free up the wire.
Hybrid Vehicles
-- Remove the bolts -2- from the bracket for the After-Run Coolant Pump -V51- and then move the After-Run Coolant Pump -V51- and bracket to the side.
Hazardous high voltage
Severe bodily injury or death by electrocution.
- The high voltage system may only be turned off by a qualified person (Audi high voltage technician).
- It must be certain that the voltage for the high voltage system is turned off. The voltage is guaranteed to be off exclusively with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding".
- The qualified technician (Audi high voltage technician) will make sure the voltage is turned off and that the system cannot turn back on again using Service Disconnect Lock T40262. The qualified technician should make sure the system cannot turn on again by keeping the key and the High Voltage System Maintenance Connector -TW- in a safe place.
- The qualified personnel (Audi high voltage technicians) mark the vehicle with a label.
De-energizing the high voltage system:
Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
Select the Guided Fault Finding mode
Using the Go To button, move through the following menu points
Function/Component Selection
Body
Electrical Equipment
OBD-Capable System
8C- Hybrid Battery Management -J840
8C - Hybrid Battery Management, Functions
51 - De-Energize the High Voltage
-- Remove the Electrical A/C Compressor -V470- from the auxiliary components bracket and tie it up on the left side, refer to A/C COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ON BRACKET, ELECTRICALLY-DRIVEN A/C COMPRESSOR , or A/C COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, ELECTRICALLY-DRIVEN A/C COMPRESSOR .
Refrigerant can cause serious personal injury.
- Do not open the Air Conditioning (A/C) system refrigerant circuit.
Risk of damaging refrigerant lines and hoses.
- Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses.
Vehicles with Secondary Air Injection System
-- Disconnect the connectors -arrows-.
Coolant Hose Version 1
-- Open the clamps -arrows- and remove the rear coolant hoses.
Coolant Hose Version 2
-- Lift the clip -1-, loosen the clamp -2- and remove the rear coolant hoses.
Continuation for All Vehicles
Lay a cloth below the coolant pipe to catch escaping coolant.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and move the front coolant pipe upward.
-- Loosen the clamp -left arrow- and remove the coolant hose.
-- Remove the nut -1- and bolt -2- and remove the support for the intake manifold.
