Crankshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Plastigage®

Procedure

NOTE:

Use old bolts to measure radial play.

-- Remove the guide frame and clean the bearing journals.

-- Place the Plastigage® over the entire width of the bearing journal or into the bearing shells.

Plastigage® must rest in center of bearing shell.

-- Place guide frame and fasten with the old bolts, refer to Figure, do not turn the crankshaft.

-- Install the guide frame.

-- Compare width of Plastigage® with calibrated scale.

Radial clearance:

New: 0.02 to 0.05 mm.

-- Replace bolts for the final assembly.
