POWER STEERING PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING, Vehicles with 6-Cylinder Diesel Engine: Removing

General Information

Power steering pump is not designed to be serviced. If there are customer complaints, the cause must be determined using a pressure and leak test. If there is a malfunction, replace the power steering pump.

• If there is no fluid in the reservoir, then the steering system must always be checked for leaks.
• If there are leaks in the area of the line connections, the lines/connections must first be inspected for leaks, tightened as necessary and wiped dry.
• Power steering pump is delivered without oil. Therefore, Hydraulic Fluid must be filled before installation and turned by hand. Otherwise, noises when driving or damage to power steering pump may occur.

-- Place the vehicle on a hoist.

-- Extract the hydraulic fluid from the reservoir using Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500.

-- Carefully remove the engine cover from the 4 bolts -arrow- one after the other.

-- Clamp off the suction hose -1- and return hose -2- using the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm 3094.

-- Remove the noise insulation, refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Drain coolant, refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Open the clamp -1- on the left longitudinal member and remove the coolant hose -2-, where applicable.

-- Remove the intake manifold upper section -1-. Remove the air guide hose -4-, the eyelet -3-, the clamp -7- and the coolant hose.

-- Remove the coolant reservoir -2-.

-- Secure the air guide hose -1- to the brake line -3- using a wire -2-.

-- Move the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow- to release the tension on the ribbed belt. To do so, use the Torx Socket - T60 T40087.

-- Only remove the ribbed belt from the power steering pump belt pulley.

-- Mark the position of the belt pulley to the hub. Make a marking -arrow-.

-- First just loosen the belt pulley bolts -arrow-. If necessary use the Counterhold - Kit - Multiple Use T10172 with the Counterhold - Kit - Adapter 5 T10172/5 -1-.

-- Remove the bolts that were previously loosened and remove the belt pulley from the power steering pump.

-- Place the drip tray under the power steering pump.

-- Cut through the cable ties -4-.

-- Remove the clamp -2- and the intake hose -1-.

-- If the pressure line -C- is also attached to the A/C compressor by a bracket, the remove the front upper A/C compressor bolt.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and pull the pressure line -2- out of the power steering pump.

-- Seal the power steering pump and line connections using clean sealing plugs.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and -3- and the power steering pump.

-- Drive the sleeve -2- for the bolt -3- in the bracket back slightly to install the power steering pump.
