Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Hose Clamps - Up To 25 mm 3094
• Counterhold - Multiple Use T10172A with Adapter T10172/5
• Hose Clip Pliers VAG1275A
• Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm VAG1331
• Tool insert AF 17 VAG1331/6
• Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500
• Shop Crane - Drip Tray VAS6208
• Wrench - Door Adjusting 3320 with Wrench - Door Adjusting - Box Wrench 3320/2
• Engine Bung Set VAS6122

General Information

Power steering pump is not designed to be serviced. If there are customer complaints, the cause must be determined using a pressure and leak test. If there is a malfunction, replace the power steering pump.

• If there is no fluid in the reservoir, then the steering system must always be checked for leaks.
• If there are leaks in the area of the line connections, the lines/connections must first be inspected for leaks, tightened as necessary and wiped dry.
• Power steering pump is delivered without oil. Therefore, Hydraulic Fluid must be filled before installation and turned by hand. Otherwise, noises when driving or damage to power steering pump may occur.

-- Place the vehicle on a hoist.

-- Remove the engine cover upward -arrows-.

-- Open the clamps -arrows- and remove the toothed belt cover.

-- Mark the position of the belt pulley to the hub. Make a marking -arrow-.

-- Only remove the ribbed belt from the power steering pump belt pulley .

-- Only loosen the belt pulley bolts -arrow- first using the Wrench - Door Adjusting 3320 and the accompanying Wrench - Door Adjusting - Box Wrench 3320/2. To do so, use the Counterhold - Multiple Use T10172A with the Counterhold - Kit - Adapter 5 T10172/5 -1- if necessary.

-- Remove the loosened bolts and the belt pulley.

-- Extract the hydraulic fluid from the reservoir using Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500.

-- Clamp off the suction hose -1- and return hose -2- using the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm 3094.

-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows- and remove the air guide hose.

-- Remove the noise insulation, refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Place the drip tray under the power steering pump.

-- Carefully cut through the cable ties -1- for the wiring harness -2- if applicable.

-- Remove the clamp -4- from the intake hose -3-. Remove the suction hose -3-.

-- Lay several cloths under the power steering pump and pressure line.

-- Remove the union nut -1- and pull the pressure line -4- out of the power steering pump.

-- Seal the power steering pump and line connections using clean sealing plugs.

-- Expose wiring harness -2- on the power steering pump, if applicable.

-- Remove the bolts -1- (quantity: 3) and the bolt -3-.

-- Drive the sleeve -2- for the bolt -3- in the bracket back slightly to install the power steering pump.

-- Remove the power steering pump.
