Airbag unit (sports steering wheel), assembly overview

1 - Self-cancelling ring with slip ring
2 - Connector for airbag unit
3 - Torx bolts T30 (2x)
- Tightening torque 7 Nm
4 - Connector for coil
5 - Steering wheel
6 - Multi-point socket head bolt
- Tightening torque 50 Nm
7 - Airbag unit
- Removing
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Release steering column adjuster.
- Pull steering wheel - 5 - outward and upward as far as possible.
- Move steering wheel - 5 - to vertical position.
- Remove Torx bolt T30 - 3 -.
- Turn steering wheel half a turn back and unscrew second Torx bolt T 30 - 3 -.
- Disconnect connector for airbag unit - 2 -.
- Put airbag unit down - 7 - with impact cushion facing upward.
- Installing
- Installation is in reverse order of removal.
- Ensure that connector and catch engage fully (i.e. audibly).
- Ensure that no cable is on gas generator.
- Ensure that airbag cable is not trapped. Lay airbag cable in a loop to the left.
- Tighten bolts - 3 - (2x) to a torque of 7 Nm.
- Switch ignition on.
CAUTION:
There must be no one in the vehicle when the battery is being connected.
- Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
NOTE:
- After connecting the battery observe the necessary measures. →

- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K75 signals a malfunction after assembly, use vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 A to interrogate, erase and then again interrogate DTC memory.
