Passive Occupant Detection System (PODS), removing and installing

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for work on airbags → Airbag safety precautions .

CAUTION: The replacement part (service kit) for the seat occupied recognition system is already precalibrated and must not be separated under any circumstances. The service kit consists of:

Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706
Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452
Seat Occupied Recognition Mat
Seat cushion

Wiring harness between Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706 and Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452.

NOTE:

The seat occupied recognition system is only equipped on the front passenger seat.

1 - Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706

Removing

Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap →
- 27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL
- 27 - BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL for ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT - GENERAL INFORMATION
.
Remove the passenger seat → Front power seats with memory, removing and installing .
Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.

Remove the backrest → Front backrest, removing and installing .
Disconnect connector - 6 -.
Remove bolts - 2 - (Qty. 2).
Remove cover upholstery → Front seat covers and upholstery , for power seat → Cover and upholstery for seat pan, removing and installing (standard seat) .

Open the guide clip - 8 -.

CAUTION: Connectors - 3 - and - 7 - must not be separated.

Slide pressure sensor -G452- - 4 - along the side of the bracket - 9 -.

2 - Bolts

2.5 Nm

3 - Connector on Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706

Must not be separated under any circumstances.

4 - Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452

5 - Pressure hose

6 - Harness connector between service kit and seat wiring harness

7 - Connector on Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452

Must not be separated under any circumstances.

Service kit, removing

Fold the cushion - 5 - upward.

NOTE:

The cushion is included as part of the service kit.
Clip - 4 - must not be separated.
The hard foam insert in the crease is not included in the service kit.

Remove clips - 2 - and - 3 - (Qty. 2).
Carefully pull mat for seat occupied recognition - 1 - with upholstery - 5 - upward, when doing this guide Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452- and Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706- through seat pan without disconnecting harness connectors.
Remove the complete service kit.

CAUTION: The pressure hose and the Seat Occupied Recognition Mat - 1 - must not be kinked under any circumstances during repairs.

Service kit, installing

NOTE:

The hard foam insert in the crease is not included in the service kit. Therefore, reuse the hard foam insert again in the seat crease.

Guide the Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452 and Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706 from above through the seat pan without separating the electrical connections.
Pull the crease between seat pan and Seat Occupied Recognition Mat - 1 - so that it is smooth (free of folds).
Secure the Seat Occupied Recognition Mat - 1 - with the clips - 2 - and - 3 - (Qty. 2).

1 - Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706

Installing

Secure Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452- - 4 -.
Secure the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706 with the bolts - 2 - (Qty. 2) to 2.5 Nm.
Connect harness connector - 6 -.
Upholster the seat pan, thereby all upholstery clips must be attached and be installed at the original position → Front seat covers and upholstery , for electric seat → Front seat covers and upholstery (seat memory, electrical seat adjustment) .

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

After installing the passenger seat in the vehicle, the following program must be performed under "Airbag" in Guided Fault Finding.

When installing a new service kit and after every repair on the front passenger seat:

-J706 Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module basic setting

2 - Bolts

2.5 Nm

3 - Connector on Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module -J706

Must not be separated under any circumstances.

4 - Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452

5 - Pressure hose

CAUTION: The pressure hose - 5 - and the Seat Occupied Recognition Mat must not be kinked under any circumstances during repairs.

Secure pressure hose at guide clip - 8 - at specified marking.

6 - Harness connector between service kit and seat wiring harness

7 - Connector on Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor -G452

Must not be separated under any circumstances.
