Right flange shaft oil seal, replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required 

• Drift VW 295
• Drift 2062
• Puller T10037
• Drip tray V.A.G 1306 or drip tray for workshop hoist VAS 6208

• Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
• Torque wrench V.A.G 1332

Removing 

• Transmission is installed

• Please observe general repair instructions → General repair instructions .
• Loosen bolt for right-side drive shaft/wheel hub.

• Remove front right wheel.
• Release quick release fasteners - 1  - , unscrew bolts - 2  - and remove noise insulation.

• Remove heat shield - arrows  - for drive shaft (right-side).
• Remove drive shaft (right-side) → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .

Drip tray V.A.G 1306 or drip tray for workshop hoist VAS 6208

• Remove flange shaft (right-side); to do so, secure puller T10037 to transmission housing - arrow  -.

• Lever out flange shaft oil seal.

Installing 

• Always replace circlip for flange shaft.
• Clamp flange shaft in vice, using jaw protectors. Use new circlip - A  - to press old circlip out of groove in flange shaft.
• Lightly oil outer circumference of new oil seal.

• Drive new oil seal for flange shaft in to a depth of 5.65 ± 0.15 mm below outer surface of housing, making sure you keep seal straight.
• Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing grease G 052 128 A1  .
• Drive flange shaft in with drift VW 295.
• Fit drive shaft heat shield.

• Bolt drive shaft to flange shaft → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
• Fill up oil in transmission and check oil level → Transmission gear oil, checking level .
• Install noise insulation.
