Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Plastigage®

Procedure

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFTS .

-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.

-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.

-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.

-- Place Plastigage® over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.

Plastigage® must rest in center of bearing.

-- Install the camshafts, mount the guide frame and tighten the bolts to 8 Nm. Refer to Figure. When doing this, be careful not to rotate the camshafts.

-- Remove the bearing bracket and camshafts.

-- Compare width of Plastigage® with calibrated scale.

Radial clearance:

For 24 mm diameter bearings: 0.024 to 0.066 mm
For 36 mm diameter bearings: 0.032 to 0.078 mm
