Convertible Top, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Perform the preliminary work for the battery support mode. Refer to BATTERY .

NOTE:

The hood can be opened manually using the key. Do not touch the lid for the opened convertible top compartment cover when doing this.

-- Activate the release lever for the rear seat backrest in the luggage compartment to release the rear seat backrest.

-- Remove the luggage compartment side trim panel. Refer to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANELS .

-- Bridge the wire -1- to the left and right convertible top compartment enclosure switches using a repair wire -2- from the :VAS1978B , since the cover will otherwise no longer able to be activated electronically.

WARNING:

Danger of personal injury if the convertible top compartment cover is not completely open.

When working on the cover, the convertible top compartment cover must move all the way to the rear into its end position.
Bleed the hydraulic pressure completely before starting any work on the convertible top system.
Reason: after approximately 6 minutes the convertible top control module will bleed the hydraulic pressure and the convertible top compartment cover or the cover could fall down uncontrolled.
All work must be performed with the hydraulic pressure bled.

-- Open the convertible top until the displayed position of the top and the convertible top compartment cover is reached.

-- Secure the convertible top compartment cover in the "open" position against unintentional closing.

-- With the ignition switched off, press the Power Top Operation Switch -E137- -1- for approximately five seconds.

The pressure in the hydraulic system will come down.

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY .

-- Remove the convertible top compartment. Refer to CONVERTIBLE TOP COMPARTMENT .

-- Remove the convertible top compartment side trim panel. Refer to CONVERTIBLE TOP COMPARTMENT .

-- Remove the convertible top compartment cover locking motor. Refer to Convertible Top Compartment Cover Locking Motor -V222-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the cover in the convertible top compartment. The convertible top compartment cover remains open.

-- Remove the side cushion. Refer to REAR SEATS .

-- Remove the side trim panels. Refer to SIDE TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the inner window shaft strip. Refer to INNER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the exterior/interior window shaft strip and remove the retaining clips -1-. Refer to OUTER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the hydraulic pump, the hydraulic lines remain connected. Refer to HYDRAULIC UNIT (HYDRAULIC PUMP), REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Free up the hydraulic lines -1 and 4-.

Dismount the hydraulic line bracket -3- from the threaded pin using a :80-200
Press the securing tabs together on the bracket -2- for the hydraulic lines -arrow- and remove them from the body mount.

-- Remove the hydraulic cylinder for the convertible top compartment cover. Refer to CONVERTIBLE TOP COMPARTMENT COVER HYDRAULIC CYLINDER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Remove the nut -2- and remove the Ground (GND) wire -3-.

-- Lower the convertible top into the convertible top compartment.

-- If equipped, remove the subwoofer. Refer to SOUND SYSTEM .

-- Remove the nut -3- and remove the GND wire -2- from the left main bearing -1-.

-- Remove the nut -3- and remove the GND wire -2- from the right main bearing -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -1, 2 and 3- on the left and right of the main bearing.

-- The convertible top -1- must carefully be lifted out of the vehicle with the help of 3 people -arrows-.

Two people hold the convertible top.
The third person removes the hydraulic pump -2-, the hydraulic cylinder -3-, and the hydraulic lines -4- from out of the opening in the convertible top compartment.

Clamp the Convertible Top into the :VAS6586

NOTE:

Lightly secure both mounting plates with mounting points -A and E- on the main bearing.

The arrows must point forward in the direction of travel.

-- Lightly secure the main bearing on the left and right with the bore holes shown in the figure -arrows- to the mounting plates via mounting points -C and D-.
