Airbag Unit With Igniter, Removing And Installing, Bolted Airbag Version: Installing

WARNING:

Follow all safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting a connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.

Install in reverse order of removal and Note The Following:

NOTE:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way and engage audibly.

Make sure the wires do not get caught.

-- Connect the spiral spring connector with the airbag connector coupling on the return spring with slip ring.

-- Press in the connector to secure it in the pockets on the steering wheel.

-- Position the driver side airbag in the steering wheel.

-- Install the 2 bolts -arrow- for securing the driver side airbag approximately 2 turns.

-- Press the horn three times to attain an even gap dimension.

-- Do not touch the airbag anymore.

-- Tighten the bolts -arrow-.

-- Press the closure caps into the recesses on the steering wheel.

WARNING:

The ignition must be on when connecting the battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle interior when connecting the battery.

-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to BATTERY .

-- Finally, check and erase the Airbag Control Module -J234- DTC memory so that faults can be stored when the connectors are disconnected. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
