Wheel Bearing Housing, Removing And Installing, Front Wheel Drive (Fwd) Vehicles: Installing

Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:

Tightening Specifications. Refer to OVERVIEW - WHEEL BEARING, VEHICLES WITH FRONT WHEEL DRIVE (FWD) .

NOTE:

Bonded Rubber Bushings Can Only Be Turned To A Limited Extent. Only Tighten Suspension Screws When Vehicle Is In Curb Weight Or Control Position.

Wheel bearing, lifting to curb weight position on vehicles with coil springs. Refer to WHEEL BEARING IN CURB WEIGHT, REAR AXLE, LIFTING VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRING .

-- Install wheel bearing housing.

-- Insert the bolt -1- with the spacer tube -2- and install the nut -3- loosely.

CAUTION:

Do not tighten the threaded connection using the nut -3-.

-- Tighten the bolt -1-.

-- Install the coil spring. Refer to SPRING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the brake caliper and the brake rotor. Refer to REAR BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Only if the Wheel Bearing Housing was Replaced

-- Install the Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor --. Refer to RIGHT/LEFT REAR ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -G44- / -G46-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the front seal and grease the stub axle -arrow- lightly with Grease.

NOTE:

Damaged (Dented) Protective Cap Must Be Replaced.

A Damaged (Dented) Protective Cap Allows Moisture To Enter. Therefore, Always Use The Tool Shown.

-- Drive in the protective cap with the :3241/4 .

Installation, Continued

-- Install the wheel.

-- Tighten the wheel. Refer to WHEEL BOLT TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

Only If The Wheel Bearing Housing Was Replaced

-- Tighten the wheel bearing unit collar bolt, but only when the vehicle is resting on its wheels. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .

Installation, Continued

-- An axle alignment may be required. Refer to EVALUATING NEED FOR AXLE ALIGNMENT .

The Axle Alignment On The Front And Rear Axles Must Be Performed On A VW/Audi Approved Alignment Rack.
